Hotel really is not an accurate description of some of the big ones on the strip, resort more accurately describes, or maybe extreme resorts. Many have casinos larger than 100,000 square feet, not just one or two restaurants but often 10 plus, bars, shopping arcades, spas, large pool areas, theatres, cinemas, nightclubs and much more.

Of the top 20 largest hotels in the world today las Vegas has no fewer than 17 of them, Vegas has over 150,000 hotel rooms in total easily the most in America. And it is growing faster than any other city, currently under construction is the massive CityCentre project which when complete will cover 67 acres, feature 6 towering buildings that reach up to 61 stories have 4000 hotel rooms plus 2700 condominium units and over half a million square feet of retail space.

Most Las Vegas hotels have a theme, famous themed hotels include the luxor themed around ancient Egypt the impressive Venetian hotel with its grand canal built at a cot of over $1.5 billion dollar, treasure island a fantastic hotel with a pirate theme ideal for families, circus circus with its live trapeze artists performing above as you play on the slots, and New York New York a Manhattan themed resort with its very own rollercoaster built inside and out of this massive complex. The largest hotel on the strip currently is the massive MGM grand with over 5000 hotel rooms 18 restaurants 4 nightclubs including the world famous studio 54, 5 swimming pools a lazy river ride, huge casino and much much more.

These of course are just a taster of some of the larger hotels on the strip, if you prefer something more reminiscent of old Vegas then hotels for you to consider include the Riviera, Flamingo Hilton, the Hilton, Bally's or anyone of the hotels around Fremont street, visiting these hotels gives you a sense of what Vegas must have been like in days gone by when Elvis or Sinatra were the headline acts. There are also an abundance of smaller hotels and motels dotted around the strip and these give a budget alternative to the big names but still have access to the main resorts and attractions.
